...and then there was a PANDEMIC Y'ALL!

2/3/2020

My first tour began with a bang (good & bad). Had plenty of issues at work... it's the government y'all, I have no control.. so no it ain't my fault the guberment and I keep beefing. I love my job they just don't always love me back..but I think they at least like me. LOL.. So outside all of that my life in Guangzhou was going outstanding. I found an amazing "Ayi" Jenny... I mastered Taoboa, Meituan, WeChat pay and Didi and I was receiving monthly mani/pedis by my mobile manicurist. And the Sequel discovers a 24 HOUR SPA...Life couldn't get any better.

Wait! it did get better. I was able to schedule, plan and FINALLLLLLY get funded (after 6 months of beefing with the government) my very first R&R.... it WASSSS going to be a luxury cruise on Norwegian cruise lines beginning in Hong Kong, making 4 stops in Vietnam and ending in Singapore.  We were suppose to be in a 2 bedroom suite with butler service... I am getting depressed just thinking about... it was suppose to be AAAAAMAZING!

But then that dam RONA ROLLED UP AND STOLE MY DREAMS!!! Yes, she was like nah son you not going no where. Enjoy the next 6 months in that 3rd world of a country you called USA! Where Taoboa does not exist.  Yep, the moment I tried to step foot on that CRUISE--> BOAT--> VESSEL (inside government joke), I was nicely escorted off (yes there were tears) and 3 days later me, and my crew of 2, were on a flight back to 'Merica!

Things spiraled all the way down from there... lost some folks .... (that's all I have to say about that).

Well eventually we returned to China, went on a few vacations with my favorite family of 7 minus 1, got to take A cruise, just not THE cruise.  The lil dude spent his 10th birthday on-board a Yangtze River cruise. We went on a group trip to Shangri-La, got to experience air-in-a-can (blessing in disguise), got to see a plethora of temples and my life flash before my eyes, on the way up to see a few of them.  Chinese don't do guard rails or railings or anything on the edge of a cliff I could possibly grab on to before I fell to my death.  Since I am here to speak on it, I obviously did not fall to my death.

Yes there are pictures, loads of photos and once I find them I will post them and if I never post them know that I am busy and got a lot of shit to do, but they are in the cloud, safe and sound.

Then my tour in China came to an end. Yes, it felt just like the ending of this post. ABRUPT!

Taste of the "Good Lyfe"....

12/15/2019

The good lyfe continues.. the post I never got to finish.

It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday........

6/14/2019

So I am here, living my best life... with 3 pools and lots of culture around me and I have one issue.... why do I feel some type of way about having domestic help...Lawd help me.... I have someone to clean, wash clothes, wash dishes, iron, pick up the lil dude from the bus and watch and feed him. Sooooooo why do I feel so horrible. LOL... Lawd I ask that you be sure I am paying a living wage cause I want no parts of modern day slavery... yeah I said it...am I the only brown person living abroad trying to get a handle on this.   Every weekend I clean up because I don't want her thinking we are slobs. I wipe down the counters and wash the dishes and put them back neatly (exactly how she had them before).  I try to make her jobs as easy as possible. Then this happens.....
Picture
Who the heck let her into my "unmentionables" (my dad - father of a gang of girls use to say) drawer. I thought I washed all my own undies and hid them away.... Lawd take me now!!!!

How'd we get here again?

6/3/2019

Yes we live in China again. How you may ask? There is this very exclusive club that you must search the web far and wide to find. Lol. Or just google foreign service. Those that know me, know I will google anything, especially when it pertains to a job that meets my needs. This time I googled how to work and live abroad for the “goberment”.

In order to get said “goberment” job you must be okay with them being all up in your business. Definitely a fair trade off for FREE FLIGHTS, HOUSING, EDUCATION FOR THE LIL DUDE (until age 18 of course) and the experience of watching strangers pack up all your crap (priceless valuables, LEGO’s and shoes) and guarantee you it may or may not arrive at your final destination between now and your next lifetime. Yes, sign me up for that.

Quick rundown of our life over the past 6 months:
They let me in the exclusive club in January, the strangers came and packed up some of my crap and then the lil dude and I left sissy, Dah and our gang of family members and drove to DC (oh with a car full of additional crap).

We spent 5 months learning what “NOT TO DO” and how NOT to get fired in 0 to 60 seconds and about 3 sentences in Chinese. Then the strangers came back and packed up our crap once again and they flew us to China. I may or may not have had a say in where I was sent. I truly believe they just close their eyes and point. I’m fine with that since I grew up in New York City so I can survive just about anywhere (with some
form of electricity and public transportation).

We landed in China and some nice folks from the “gobernment” were there to meet us. Kind of like our handlers. Lol. Except I’m not very good at being handled (introvert who likes freedom to roam). So I quickly learned there will be minimal roaming alone for the first few days. Although I managed to allude my capturers, I mean handlers and seek solice in IKEA and old faithful STARBUCKS. The 2 main reasons I keep coming back to China.

However, my handlers are extremely nice and provide a gateway for social interaction when I’m up for it.

WAIT.... hold on...... I must give a shout out to my MELANATED SISTAHS ON SOCIAL MEDIA.... how about a single mom arrived in DC and the first day of school was delayed (Arlington schools are doing a poor job of raising survivalists- how you close school due to a “chance of snow” really... my NYCers know ain’t no such thing as school closed EVER)... anyway... who came to the rescue of the single momma and lil dude.. a melanated sistah from social media (for those concerned no I didn’t just drop my son off with a stranger lol, kinda).

Also shout to my sistahs in Tribe (you know who you are), B & S in China and my peeps on WEChat for keeping me well connected and informed. All I have to say is.... where the hell
were y’all my first time in China. LOL. I’m just kidding you all have been invaluable!!!!! You have served as family, friends and guides and I am most appreciative!!!

This is just the beginning but for now I have to take my butt to bed cause I’m still on CST time... and I need to get on CPT (some of y’all will get that on the drive home- church sayings) :-)
